A 3.5-billion-year-old martian rock has been found to contain more than 20 organic molecules, including some that are considered building blocks of life. The discovery was made by NASA's Curiosity rover, which analyzed a clay-rich rock from Gale Crater. The findings suggest that ancient martian sediments can preserve organic molecules, but the origin of these molecules is unclear.
