Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will take action against Maharashtra Congress leader Vijay Wadetiwar for allegedly spreading falsehoods and defaming Mumbai North Central candidate and 26/11 public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. We requested the Election Commission to do so.
Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, Wadetiwar, reportedly called Nikam “anti-national” and said that the then Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare was not killed by Kasab during 26/11. He was accused of concealing information. He was attacked by a terrorist and fell to the bullets of a police officer who was using the RSS.
His argument is premised on the book “Who Killed Karkare” written by former police officer SM Mushrif.
“As responsible leaders, opposition leaders should refrain from making statements that help the enemy,” Nikam said.
stir up a hornet’s nest
Maharashtra Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar said it was not Ajmal Kasab who killed police officer Hemant Karkare but a police officer with RSS leanings and Ujjwal Nikam is suppressing this fact. Therefore, he claimed to be a traitor and provoked the horny layer.
Relationship between Ujjwal Nikam and 26/11
Mr. Nikam, who is contesting on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket from Mumbai North Central, was the government prosecutor in the 26/11 incident.
“On 26/11, Mr. Hemant Karkare was not shot by Mr. Kasab. A police officer shot him on the instructions of the RSS. Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam knew this but did not try to hide this fact. I chose it,” Wadetiwar asserted. He further said that his statement was taken from former police officer SM Mushrif’s book ‘Who Killed Karkare’.
This prompted Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to join the opposition parties in the issue. He said the opposition was “concerned about Ajmal Kasab” and wanted to support terrorists by targeting Nikam.
“Mahayuti is supporting Nikam and MVA is supporting Kasab. Now it’s up to you to decide who to vote for,” Fadnavis said.
Senior leader Supriya Srinath said the BJP had chosen a candidate whose “lie that 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab was served biryani in jail had been debunked in the past”.
Ujjwal Nikam’s reaction to Vijay Wadettiwar’s claims
Mr. Nikam, who was once again caught up in the storm, said, “What a reckless statement by Mr. Wadetiwar. “It reflects the level. I never thought politics would stoop.” He (Wade Tiwar) is not only insulting me, he is insulting all the 166 souls killed and injured in the 26/11 attacks,” Nikam was quoted as saying.
Statement of Maharashtra CM
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also condemned the statement. Mr. Karkare, who was an IPS officer in 1982, was arrested on November 26, 2008, when Mr. Kasab and his partner Abu Ismail opened fire on a van, along with senior police officials Ashok Kamte and Vijay Saraskar, outside Kama Hospital. died in
