Inspired by the great outdoors, al fresco nails are the perfect new nail polish trend to get into this summer.
Manicure trends come and go, but for Zola Ganzoligt (also known as @nailsbyzola on Instagram), the trends she starts tend to stick around, like the “glazed donut” nails that she popularized in 2022 with the help of Hailey Bieber. Her new favorite thing? Nail art inspired by mother nature, or what we’re calling “al fresco nails.”
Whether taking inspiration from their local farmers market or incorporating things they see while walking through their neighborhood park, celebs (and manicurists) are experimenting with adding cute, hand-drawn details to their nails.
Hailey Bieber recently had cherries, blueberries, and carrots (all organic, of course) applied to her other nails. The model, who is currently pregnant with her first child, has been favoring snazzy, nature-inspired manicures lately. Previously, she sported a pink base with a daisy floral design, with each flower featuring a diamond stud in the middle.
Even Kylie Jenner, who’s known for her sophisticated approach to beauty, has gone bold in the nail department. Ganzoligt hand-painted Jenner’s nails with wriggling bugs, ladybugs, and other insects, finishing them off with pale yellow French tips. “Bugs are my favorite,” the beauty mogul said.
Other ways to incorporate this trend include flowers (see: Imarni’s custom 3D gel orchids and Betina Goldstein’s pressed micro flowers), birds, and trees. Being in nature naturally lifts your mood; scientific studies show that people who spend more time by the sea or surrounded by trees are happier and healthier than those who don’t. So, wherever you can get a taste of nature, maybe just with your nail polish.
