A new species of legless amphibian, named Gegeneophis chandgadi, has been discovered by a multi-institutional team of researchers in the Chandgad area of the Kolhapur region, in the northern Western Ghats of Maharashtra. Legless amphibians, or caecilians, are burrowing creatures, and the find adds to the biodiversity record of the Western Ghats, one of the world's key biodiversity hotspots.
