The Union Cabinet approved the GOBARdhan scheme with an outlay of ₹23,371 crore to accelerate growth of the compressed biogas (CBG) sector. The scheme aims to raise domestic CBG production tenfold and to mobilise large-scale private investment in the sector, strengthening India's clean-energy and waste-to-wealth push.
The Union Cabinet approved ₹84,084 crore for the offshore hydrocarbon exploration scheme 'Samudra Manthan'. Of the total, ₹43,200 crore has been allocated for drilling 60 deepwater exploration wells, aimed at boosting domestic exploration and cutting India's dependence on imported crude oil and gas.
The HinduThe Centre extended the PM-KISAN scheme for four more years, allocating ₹3.15 lakh crore. The government stated that more than ₹4.47 lakh crore has already been transferred directly into farmers' bank accounts through 23 instalments since the scheme was launched in February 2019, sustaining income support to farming households.
The HinduRBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said the Reserve Bank plans to issue polymer currency notes from the beginning of the next fiscal year. He noted the initiative is still at the pilot stage, and the notes will be tested for how they perform in Indian climate and infrastructure conditions before a wider rollout.
