The Election Commission of India announced by-elections to five Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat. The Assembly seats are Madurantakam and Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu, Thattanchavady in Puducherry, and Rezinagar and Nandigram in West Bengal; the Lok Sabha seat is Nagaon in Assam. All the seats fell vacant due to resignations, with voting on 6 October and counting on 9 October.
