Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana
One-year life insurance of ₹2 lakh for death from any cause, for bank or post office account holders aged 18–50. The premium is ₹436 a year, auto-debited from your account; cover can be renewed each year up to age 55.

What you get
- ₹2 lakh paid to the nominee on death from any cause.
- Premium: ₹436 a year (1 June to 31 May), auto-debited in one go.
- Joining mid-year costs less: ₹342 (Sep–Nov), ₹228 (Dec–Feb), ₹114 (Mar–May). Full ₹436 at renewal.
- Cover is in addition to any other insurance you have.
- Not covered: death other than by accident in the first 30 days after joining.
- No maturity or surrender value; it is pure life cover.
Who can apply
- Individual bank or post office account holders aged 18 to 50 (age nearer birthday) can join.
- Joint account holders can each join if they meet the conditions.
- NRIs with an eligible bank account at a branch in India can join (claims paid in Indian rupees).
- You can join through only one account.
Who cannot apply
- People above 50 cannot newly join.
- Cover ends at age 55.
- Institutional (non-individual) account holders are not eligible.
- Cover lapses if the account is closed or lacks balance for the premium.
Documents usually needed
- Bank or post office savings account (Aadhaar is the primary KYC for the account)
- PMJJBY enrolment form / auto-debit consent-cum-declaration form
How to apply
- Go to your bank branch or post office, or enrol online through the Jan Suraksha portal.
- Fill in the enrolment and auto-debit consent form.
- Keep enough balance for the premium to be auto-debited each year by 31 May.
