Augusta-area runners are no strangers to famous college teams.
The region continues to produce state champions year after year, so it’s no wonder programs like Georgia State and Georgia Tech continue to return here for recruiting.
Which stars from the Augusta area will be competing in the Southeastern Coast and Atlantic Coast conferences next season?
Lakeside’s Kennedy Myers chooses Georgia Tech
Myers would graduate from Lakeside as one of the program’s most decorated athletes, with many Division I programs vying for her. North Carolina State and Howard University dominated until the end, but it was the Yellow Jackets who won in the end.
“I went back and forth to a lot of schools for a really long time. I was always weighing the pros and cons and figuring out which school would help me more academically, athletically, and financially. I had to think about it. Those three were big factors in my decision,” she said. “As I started dropping my times, tech companies started offering me more money. Also, meeting people on the team and their connections to help me after graduation pushed me in that direction.” He gave it to me.”
Myers’ father, Derrick, is Lakeside’s athletic director and coaches cross country and track and field. He’s had a front row seat to his daughter’s career and her recruitment, but also breathed a sigh of relief when her daughter signed on the dotted line.
“I’m so proud of that girl. She’s worked hard. She had a goal to earn a scholarship and she did it. Even though I’m a coach, I don’t think I’m going to be very proud of her in terms of recruiting. I’ve never been on that side,” he said. “The coaches at both schools (North Carolina State and Howard) were great. Distance was a factor, and for me as the athletic director, it was difficult to travel. She was nearby and I could just get in the car and see her. I’m happy.”
Myers becomes the first area runner to sign with Georgia Tech since 2020 Evans alumnus Katie Arwood.
Georgia acquires Adam Lippe from Westminster
Adam Lippe, a star at Westminster School in Augusta, has garnered praise for his outstanding prep sports career. The senior has won six individual state championships in cross country and track and field, including several all-region and all-state selections. Lippe also placed fourth in last year’s championship match.
Lippe is the current school record holder in several events, including the 400 meters, 800 meters, 1500 meters, 1600 meters, mile, 3K, 3,200 meters, 4×400, 4×800 and pole vault. He signed with Georgia on Monday.
He will be the first area runner to sign with the Bulldogs since Simone Rojas (also an Evans player) in 2022.
